Thank You for understanding me about Nami! Gosh, you think people would get over it after a year of seeing the development, but NOOOO, they just have to keep talking about it. Lame~

Thank you again, for (again) seeing the realistic idea in that particular pairing. From another, more humorous, standpoint, however, I could point out that Usopp is now just extremely manly…~ And yes, I may be compared to others who fixate on Nami’s new developments that my fixation on Usopp’s developments in the same area are similar, so…yes~

I do agree about the ship-friendly-ness of it all (lovely term by the way). It is almost as easy as Pokémon anime, when the characters are not always having real relationships, even if they are hinted at. So much shipping going on, it is just so many possibilities. Plus, with all of the realistic pairings (and non-realistic ones) people do not (in theory) fight each other in fan-wars over which character pairing is the better or “correct” one, as you may find in other anime and manga. A lot more fun, in my humble opinion.

I did account for Usopp’s devotion to Kaya, and I agree that blind, childhood devotion beats all else in series like One Piece. On a related note, just because I like to speculate plot devices, what Oda could do would be to have Kaya succumb after all this time to her illness (as we don’t really know what it was, perhaps it just was a terminal thing), or Usopp start to have feelings and then feel guilty about it. Of course, this would have to be a rather substantial development, and would require some plot time, something I highly doubt would be high on Oda-sama’s list of plot ideas to include. I like to speculate on how plots will proceed, and although this seems to be a rather possible occurrence, I doubt it would occur because of the impact it would cause, and noting Oda-sama’s lack of concern for pairings. Still, speculation is fun.

Hmm, so Nami could feel as though, since Usopp has devoted himself to another woman, that she would not feel threatened by him at all? Well, I had never thought of it that way. That is a rather significant hypothesis.

I skimmed through your 1st article there, and I rather liked what you wrote. I will go back later when I have time and read through the rest, as I liked what I saw.

I do believe you are the first person to mention about Nami’s change in attire rather than Other things. Kudos to that. Another compliment to putting that pic of a rather…chiseled…Usopp there. It is one of my favorite pics of that whole episode~

Totally agree this was an absolute wonderful episode and many of the things you mentioned, I wholeheartedly agree with. Even now, as there have been three more episodes after, this is still my favorite.

Though there are a few things that bug me. For one, how come people keep making such a big deal about Nami's... anatomy as you put it. I mean... she's had those since way back in Season 3. WHY ARE WE JUST NOTICING THIS NOW?!

One Piece is definitely not the most ship-friendly anime out there, seeing as Oda-san flat out all but ignores all romantic intrigues (going so far as to turn Hancock's devotion to Luffy into just another joke, not to be taken seriously) but I definitely agree with you about the Nami and Usopp paring. Of all the guys on the crew, Usopp is easily the guy she has the best connection with. Luffy's and idiot who wouldn't know the meaning of "opportunity" if it slapped him in the face (which it kind of did in Amazon Lily two years ago) Zoro just doesn't like women, Chopper's outside her species, Franky and Brook are too old, and Sanji is a womanizing creep. Usopp and her, however, have a lot in common: they are witty, resourceful, cowardly, and they fight with their brains and not with their brawn. They have also shared a lot of fun and touching moments together in Little Garden, Alabasta, Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, and so on.

Though there is one huge hurdle that will prevent anyting from actually occurring between them, and that is Usopp's blind devotion to Kaya back home. As much as I would love for Oda to try and further Nami and Usopp's relationship in the story, and have Usopp feel guilty for being unfaithful to Kaya, he probably will never do that.

Though the whole Kaya factor may just be the lynch pin that holds their friendship so tight in the first place. Maybe Nami is most comfortable with Usopp because she knows Usopp's not going to do anything to her.

Keep in mind as I say all this, I am an avid Avatar fan, which was a show whose fan base flourished on shipping threads, namely because the creators actually brought it up throughout the series.
